GAF Roofing in Los Angeles, CA | Bedrock Roof Repair
We provide independent GAF roofing installation, repair, and replacement across Los Angeles, serving homeowners throughout South and Central LA with GAF service in Hollywood. What separates our GAF work here is simple: we know how these shingle and flat-roof systems fail on 1920s – 1940s bungalows with original skip sheathing and tar-and-gravel decks, because we’ve torn enough of them off across 90036, 90037, 90038, and 90039 to read the signs before the first rain hits. Bedrock Roof Repair is not a GAF authorized dealer or manufacturer affiliate. We’re a local crew that works with seven major roofing brands, including GAF, and we’ll give you the straight answer on whether your roof needs a targeted repair or a full deck-and-shingle replacement. Call (833) 589-7850 for a free estimate.

Why Los Angeles Residents Choose Us for GAF Service
We’ve worked GAF systems across Los Angeles long enough to know that Timberline HDZ doesn’t fail the same way with Koreatown GAF service as it does in a coastal city 20 miles west. The sun here is unbroken for months, the pitch on these old roofs runs low, and the original sheathing underneath often predates the Eisenhower administration. That combination changes everything about how a shingle performs and what a repair actually requires.
Alan Cofield, our owner, trained in building trades at Cypress College and spent nearly two decades on roofs across Orange County before starting Bedrock. He’ll walk your roof with you and point out exactly where the granule loss is concentrated, which tabs are lifting, and whether that ceiling stain in your hallway traces back to a cracked vent boot or a soft deck. No pressure, no upsell. We evaluate repair before replacement every single time, and we’ll tell you if a patch buys you three more years or three more weeks.
For GAF-specific work, we use genuine GAF accessories where the system depends on matched parts, including Shingle-Mate underlayment, ridge vent, and starter components. Where aftermarket parts outperform OEM, like flashing boots on dried-out low-pitch transitions, we use those instead and explain why. That’s the honest recommendation: GAF sales & service built around what your roof actually needs, not what a supplier pushes.

Common GAF Roofing Problems We Solve in Los Angeles
- Thermal cracking and granule loss on Timberline architectural shingles. South- and west-facing slopes in Los Angeles take direct sun for nine months straight. The asphalt mat dries out, edges curl, and granules shed years before the shingle’s rated lifespan. We see it constantly in Mid-City and the flats of South Gate, where the original 3-tab roofs were often replaced with architectural shingles two decades ago and are now showing their age.
- Seal-strip failure and lifted tabs after seismic shaking. Los Angeles doesn’t just bake roofs. The ground moves. Heat cycling and earthquake movement break the seal strips on 3-tab and Timberline field shingles, leaving tabs lifted so the first winter rain drives water under the course. Homeowners in Watts and Koreatown notice this as a shingle that flaps in a breeze or an interior stain that appears after the first real storm.
- Flashing and vent-boot degradation at low-pitch transitions. Original rubber boots on these 1920s – 1940s Los Angeles roofs are cracked through by now. The sealant around pipe collars and chimney flashing has turned to chalk. The leak doesn’t show until winter rains hit. The roof looked fine all summer.
- Blistering and seam separation on GAF EverGuard TPO membranes. Flat and low-slope roofs across South and Central LA were often built as tar-and-gravel over skip sheathing. When a TPO membrane gets laid over that without addressing the deck beneath, trapped moisture and ponding water create blisters and seam splits within a few seasons. The membrane gets blamed. The deck is the actual problem.
- Skip sheathing that won’t hold new nailing. This is the Los Angeles-specific issue that most roofing crews from outside the city miss entirely. On 1920s – 1940s bungalows, the original gap-sheathing boards have dried, split, and spaced themselves so wide that new GAF shingles can’t be fastened to code. You can’t nail a Timberline HDZ roof to air. The deck has to come out first.
GAF Service in Los Angeles: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Here’s the fact that separates Los Angeles from almost anywhere else in the country when it comes to GAF roofing: the housing stock across the flats in 90036, 90037, 90038, and 90039 was built before modern roof decking existed. A 1920s bungalow in South Gate or a 1930s low-rise in GAF in Echo Park and Koreatown typically has skip sheathing, which is boards spaced apart with gaps between them, under a tar-and-gravel or original shingle roof. The building code that allowed that construction is long gone. When you re-roof one of these with GAF Timberline HDZ architectural shingles, the manufacturer’s installation requirements call for solid, code-compliant decking, and the old skip sheathing fails that requirement on day one. On a recent job off the flats in South Gate, we pulled the old tar-and-gravel and found the original sheathing had dried and split so badly you could see daylight through the gaps. We replaced the deck with solid OSB sheathing, laid GAF Shingle-Mate underlayment, set new Timberline HDZ with matched ridge vent and starter, and the roof that went back on was the first one on that house that could actually be nailed to code. This step doesn’t come up in most of the country. In Los Angeles, it’s most of the job. “The roof tells you what went wrong. You just have to know how to read it.”
GAF Models & Products We Service in Los Angeles
We install and repair the full GAF residential lineup that makes sense for Los Angeles conditions. Timberline HDZ and Timberline Natural Shadow architectural shingles are our most common install on re-roofs where the deck is solid or has been replaced. Royal Sovereign 3-tab shingles still show up on older Los Angeles rental properties and budget re-roofs, and we service them honestly, which sometimes means telling an owner the 3-tab roof on a low-pitch LA bungalow was the wrong choice from the start. Liberty Corrugated Metal and metal shingle roofing handles the wildfire-adjacent zones where fire-rated assemblies are now mandatory. GAF EverGuard TPO goes on flat and low-slope roofs where ponding is the central concern. For parts, we stock common GAF accessory components locally so Los Angeles turnarounds don’t stall waiting on a shingle-mate roll or a ridge vent section. Genuine GAF accessories where the system depends on them; quality aftermarket boots and flashing where they outperform.

AfterGAF Service Pricing in Los Angeles
Straight numbers are hard to give without seeing the roof, because Los Angeles pricing swings on one factor more than any other: what’s under the shingles. A straightforward Timberline HDZ re-roof over solid decking on a Koreatown bungalow with GAF repair in Silver Lake runs in the range of $7,500 to $12,000 for a typical 1,200 – 1,500 square foot roof. If the original skip sheathing has to come out and solid decking go in, add $3,000 to $6,000 depending on deck condition and roof access. Flat-roof TPO replacement on a South LA low-rise typically lands between $9,000 and $16,000. Spot repairs, like a field-split Timberline shingle or a cracked vent boot, run $350 to $800. Every estimate we give is free, written, and line-itemed. We walk the roof with you, show you what we’re seeing, and tell you what your roof actually needs, repair, replacement, or nothing yet. Call (833) 589-7850 and we’ll come out.

FAQs – GAF Roofing in Los Angeles
No. GAF installation specs require solid, code-compliant decking, and skip sheathing with wide gaps won’t hold the nails or meet Los Angeles building code. We’d pull the old roof, replace the deck with solid sheathing, then lay down Shingle-Mate underlayment and the new Timberline shingles. Trying to shingle over skip sheathing means nails hitting air and a roof that fails in the first good storm. Call (833) 589-7850 and we’ll show you exactly what your deck looks like from the attic side before we quote anything.
Yes, and it’s not close. Timberline HDZ architectural shingles carry a thicker mat, more asphalt, and a stronger seal strip than Royal Sovereign 3-tab, which is why we typically recommend architectural on Los Angeles re-roofs. But on south- and west-facing slopes, even architectural shingles will granule-shed and curl eventually. The upgrade buys you years, not forever. Alan can walk your roof and tell you what the remaining lifespan actually looks like. Call (833) 589-7850 for a free roof inspection.
If your property falls inside a designated WUI zone in Los Angeles, yes. The city’s fire code requires Class A fire-rated assemblies on re-roofs in those areas, which changes both the materials and the underlayment we use. GAF Liberty metal roofing and certain Timberline lines meet Class A ratings, but the assembly underneath matters too. We’ll pull the zone map for your address and tell you exactly what the inspector will require before we write the estimate. Call (833) 589-7850.
Ponding on a GAF EverGuard TPO membrane usually points to deck sag or an original low-slope design that doesn’t drain. If the membrane is less than a few years old and the deck is solid, we can often correct the drainage with a tapered system or targeted repairs. If the original tar-and-gravel buildup is trapping moisture under the TPO, patching is throwing money at a membrane over a rotting deck. We’ll cut a test core and show you what’s underneath before we recommend anything. Call (833) 589-7850 for an exact diagnosis and quote.
Probably not. Seal-strip failure from seismic movement and heat cycling is a wear-and-tear condition, not a manufacturing defect, and GAF’s warranty doesn’t cover it. The good news is that lifted tabs on a few shingles are usually a targeted repair, not a re-roof, unless the deck underneath has gone soft. We’ll inspect the full roof and tell you if it’s a spot fix or something bigger. Call (833) 589-7850 and we’ll give it to you straight.
